What Works for Women?

Monday, 28 November 2022 by muigaike

Resource mobilization for the county development agenda is a multi-prong approach. Partnership financing comes in to supplement gaps in resources required for the realization of the county development priorities.

In this spirit, the County Government of Tharaka Nithi is committed towards continuously engaging development partners not limited to Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This partnership focuses on research for development (R4D) of our people through funding under the initiative on the what works for women’s economic empowerment (IWWWEE) project.

In the year 2021, I signed the MoU for funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The MoU is between Kenyatta University which is our guarantee facilitator for research and Tharaka Nithi County Government in which the research for development (R4D) is domiciled.

The MoU envisions Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) in three thematic areas of: –

1. Women Livelihoods Tharaka Nithi County,

2. Female Labour Force Participation (FLFP) in Tharaka Nithi County, and,

3. Child Care through the impact of Crèche on Child Development in Tharaka Nithi.

This project was triggered by the conceptualization and implementation of the Crèche at the Chuka Modern Market, which attracted international recognition. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has come on board to replicate the idea in our ECDE Centres by introducing play group learning for children below four (4) years in order to free their mothers and/or guardians to participate in economic activities.

Through the partnership, the county is developing a policy, and a curriculum and will support investment in related infrastructure through a randomized controlled trial (RCT) approach for subsequent scaling up of the project to cover all the ECDE Centres across our noble county.

As a government, we remain committed to realizing our development agenda espoused under the motto of “leaving no one behind.”

God bless Tharaka Nithi

God bless Kenya.

Development partners from Hungary & Austria

Wednesday, 23 November 2022 by muigaike

Today we had a consultative meeting with development partners from Hungary and Austria, represented by the Hungary ambassador to Kenya Zsolt Mészáros, and the Austrian commercial counselor Edith Predorf, hosted by H.E Muthomi Njuki.

The scope of our partnership borders on bolstering our Healthcare system, agriculture, education and harnessing water as a resource.

As a County Government, we are happy for their donation of medical equipment that will enhance service delivery to our people.

The strategic partners donated an automated hematology analyzer to the Chuka level 4 hospital with the capacity to analyze 240 samples per hour.

The Hungarian and Austrian governments are also committing to partner with us on water harvesting, a key component that will result in ending perennial water shortage and drought in our region.

Residents have also been urged to apply for scholarships as the Hungarian government offers 200 full scholarships per year.

My government remains committed to seeking new partnerships to serve you, the great people of Tharaka Nithi.

Our community Health Volunteers (CHVs) have greatly played a key role in primary healthcare implementation and in mobilizing communities towards preventive health care that helps diagnose problems before they can become major. The CHVs are also pillars of our social-economic organizations through which the bottom-up setup is identified and profiled.

Hosted our CHVs drawn from across the county in deliberating our county’s health status and welfare.

Free High-Yield Planting seeds to Farmers

Thursday, 17 March 2022 by muigaike

The ravaging effects of Covid-19 rendered most smallholder farmers with little income and high costs of certified seeds by some inputs service providers. It is for such reasons that we embarked on cushioning our farmers by availing free high-yielding planting seeds to the farmers across the county.

H.E Muthomi Njuki has commenced the issuing of this season’s free certified seeds to our farmers in Gatunga, Mukothima, and Nkondi wards accompanied by the executive and MCA’s Mutegi Rugia, Mwenda Gataya, Muthini Karangi, Gitonga Kithuka, and other stakeholders where we issued certified high-yielding green gram seeds ahead of the March – May rainy season.

    Promoting Entrepreneurship in Youth

Monday, 31 January 2022 by muigaike

Our young people have a great desire for self-employment opportunities but are limited by insufficient capital or market linkages.

Bridging these gaps and equipping them with relevant skills across sectors would help them realize these desires. H.E Muthomi Njuki led the County Executive in hosting the KCB FOUNDATION team and signed an MOU on a working relationship.

Through this partnership, the youths in our TVETs will be half sponsored by the County Government and the other half by the KCB foundation under the 2JIAJIRI initiative to acquire relevant skills and linkages to help them create jobs and sustainably support their enterprises.

    Quality Healthcare for citizens

Friday, 28 January 2022 by muigaike

Dispensaries near residents not only reduce distances covered in search of basic healthcare but also reduce congestion at our referral hospitals as well as reduce the patient-to-healthcare givers ratio.

Joined by a section of area leaders and residents, H.E Muthomi Njuki opened Mukothima and Maragwa dispensaries in Tharaka North today. At the same time, he commissioned COVID-19 vaccination programs at the two facilities.

Tharaka Nithi County Government will continue opening more health facilities that were recently completed in all corners of Tharaka Nithi County.
