Proper planning and management of human-wildlife conflicts are crucial for the growth of the tourism sector, as they safeguard human life and property while ensuring sustainable tourism development.
The Department of Culture and Tourism, led by Chief Officer Irene Nkirote Makarius and Director Geoffrey Chabari held a stakeholder meeting to address conservation measures aimed at mitigating human-wildlife conflicts in communities bordering parks. Key partners in this initiative include the Bornfree Foundation, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), and representatives from the County Government of Meru. The Bornfree Foundation has committed to providing both financial and in-kind support to communities adjacent to Meru National Park in Meru and Tharaka Nithi Counties, further solidifying the collaborative approach to conservation.
