The Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Veterinary Services, Fisheries, Cooperative Development, Water, Irrigation, Environment and Natural Resources hosted the Emergency Locust Response Project’s National Technical Advisory Committee (ELRP NTAC) in Kathwana where discussions were held on the project’s implementation progress, proposed irrigation sub-projects, Sustainable Land Management (SLM) initiatives, and the review of previous drought mitigation projects.
Subsequently, field visit groups were dispatched to assess the impact of ELRP investments such as KATD Self Help Group’s goat breeding program, Tharaka Cereals Farmers Cooperative Society’s green gram aggregation efforts, the Galla goat breeding and green gram farming by Wendo Self Help Group, and the Natwana Farmers Cooperative Society’s aggregation of green grams and sorghum.
