Tharaka Nithi county Government is fully committed in the fight against Fall Army worms that have invaded various parts of the country. The initiative has been launched at Igamatundu and will be spread throughout the county.
“In an effort to tame the rising cases of small scale farmers suffering from their farms being infested with worms that are now threatening their yield, my government, working closely with the national government, has set out on a campaign aimed at reducing the misery.
We have launched a countywide campaign of educating farmers on the usage of pesticides donated by the national government to combat the worm.
The most affected areas are Igamba Ngombe, Tharaka and Muthambi.
Through the county’s ministry of agriculture, farmers will be able to access the pesticides that will be distributed through farmer groups.
To achieve this, we have received 500 litres of assorted pesticides, pumps and assorted protective gear to fight the menace.
Farmers have been cautioned to be vigilant as the worm appears in the morning and evening.”
