Of the 45,000 sorghum producing farmers in Kenya, 17,000 are from Tharaka Nithi County, ranking highest in quantity and quality.
Tharaka Nithi County continues to enjoy cordial working relationship with East Africa Breweries Limited (EABL) and through this partnership and linkage, our discussions focussed on;
a) Setting up of a KEG beer producing plant in Tharaka Nithi, owing to our high sorghum production.
b) Utilize our Mukothima grain storage facility for Sorghum aggregation, grading, bulking as well as subsidized inputs outlet. Same facility utilised through the department of Agriculture to reduce post harvest losses as well as offer extension services to achieve maximum production
c) Finance department to do a cess fee review in an effort to cushion traders.
d) Train bar owners on adherence to the protocols administered by MOH guidelines.
e) Through CoG, hold discussions to reduce taxes on Keg beer which the ripple effects renders low prices for sorghum produce.
Towards guarding and expanding our Sorghum market, today I received EABL team led by head of Sales Mr. Joel Kamau at Kathwana where EABL team donated sanitizers which will be distributed to religious institutions in the County.
