Signing M.O.U with AMREF International

In pursuit of Universal Healthcare, our government has today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with AMREF international to mobilise our people for mass registration into the National Hospital Insurance Fund ( NHIF) cover.

Under the agreement, AMREF will support NHIF in door-to-door registration of households using Community Health Workers (CHWs).
While the County Government provides supervision, mobilization, logistical support and service provision (Health facilities), AMREF will bring on board the relevant technology, capacity building and technical support.
Under this arrangement, the County Government will be able to access demographical data not only in the health sector but of all households in Tharaka Nithi.
Red Cross is also supporting training of the community health workers.
We will burn the midnight oil between the government, service providers and the community for maximum results to be achieved, and ensure every resident in our County has an NHIF card.

We are the fourth County in the country to partner with AMREF on NHIF registration at the grassroots level.
Present during the signing were the heads of the medical sector in TNC, AMREF team led by Dr Wala Elizabeth the programme director in charge of Health Systems Strengthening and the Tharaka Nithi NHIF head.
