The County Government of Tharaka Nithi has commissioned 1,000 Community Health Workers (CHW) today at Kathwana in partnership with the Kenya Red Cross.
Tharaka Nithi is the first county to roll out the CHWs as part of the universal healthcare programme, ‘Level One’.
The CHWs will be deployed all over the county and will work towards promoting healthcare. We will have CHW for every 25 households.
Antenetal, postnetal, nutrition, HIV Aids monitoring, ensuring registration of births and deaths is done, regular monitoring of citizens with chronic medical conditions, ensuring births take place in hospitals and general collection of health -related data that will be used to know the the health status of Tharaka Nithi County will be among the raft of the volunteers responsibilities.
This data will be available on a digital platform, making it possible for regular follow-up.
Kenya Red Cross Secretary General Abbas Gullet has said his organization has picked Tharaka Nithi County for partnerships due to our commitment to improve livelihoods.
Among the projects is the Kshs 200 million Kamanyaki irrigation scheme.
We have purposed to involve all to realize the objective of a healthy lifestyle among our people.
This include the administrative wing of the National Government, political leaders, Governmental Organisations and residents.
