Today, in collaboration with Cabinet Secretary for Water and Sanitation Mr Simon Chelugui and Abbas Gullet of Kenya Red Cross we have jointly commissioned the Kaanwa water treatment plant.
The project will be managed by Nithi Water Services Company (NIWASCO) which is under the County Government, and will serve Kaanwa and the environs.
Collaboration between Tharaka Nithi and the Red Cross begun in earnest in December 2017 when Cholera outbreak ravaged the nation and Tharaka Nithi was not spared by the epidemic.
The County Government and Red Cross swung into action to contain the situation.
Negotiations on how to mitigate future occurrences by providing clean water and successes have been registered in water, health and sanitation sectors.
The projects are a big step toward attaining the envisaged Tharaka Nithi Integrated Water System.
The end result is having every household in the county having access to safe drinking water.
